Voyage to the InfiniteAn installation for SMBC

Commissioned by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation for their trade booth at Fintech Festival 2024, this paper craft installation explores the intersection of tradition, technology, and transformation through the metaphor of a voyage. Inspired by the timeless journey of a sailboat navigating treacherous seas, the piece represents the struggle of humanity amidst an overwhelming sea of data. The waves — turbulent and chaotic — symbolize the vast and unstructured information that engulfs the modern world.

At the heart of the journey, the sailboat embodies traditional craftsmanship, resilience, and human intuition. As it faces the relentless storm, it discovers a guiding force — artificial intelligence —illuminating a path forward. With this newfound knowledge, the vessel undergoes a profound metamorphosis, evolving from a humble traditional sailboat into a futuristic ship. No longer bound by the limitations of the physical sea, it ascends into an infinite realm of clouds, where data and technology converge harmoniously against a boundless sky.

Collaborating with Wild Paper Boutique, this installation is a celebration of transformation — bridging heritage with innovation, adversity with progress, and tradition with the infinite possibilities of the digital age. It serves as a poetic reflection on the role of AI as a navigator, not replacing human ingenuity, but elevating it to new horizons.
